Today, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, H.E. Klaus-Peter Brandes, and the Secretary General of the East African Community, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Richard Sezibera, signed a bilateral grant agreement in the tune of 10 Million Euro in support of the Aga Khan University Health Programme in Arusha.

The project comprises the construction and renovation of two university buildings and a students' residential accommodation as well as the course material for nurses' and midwives' education.
Furthermore, the project aims at supporting EAC in its objective to develop region-wide accreditation for curricula for health professionals.
Activities will initially be focused on Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda and will then be expanded to Rwanda and Burundi in a subsequent phase To implement this agreement the EAC, the Aga Khan Development Network, and KFW Development Bank (Germany) signed a corresponding trilateral contract.
“I have noted with great satisfaction that this innovative financial cooperation will improve medical services through better trained medical personnel in the EAC region”, remarked Ambassador Brandes. “ In future, inadequately supplied and disadvanteged regions in East Africa will benefit from more and better educated nurses and midwives.”
