National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has called upon Tanzanians living abroad to register in the 2011 established Welfare Scheme for Tanzanians in Diaspora (WESTADI)

The Scheme inaugurated by H.E. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, the President of the United Republic of Tanzania during the 50 years anniversary of  Independence in Maryland, USA.

The response from Diaspora has been less than ideal causing the scheme which intends to benefit the Tanzanian community abroad by providing Repatriation Benefit for the deceased member and Health Insurance Benefit to four (4) dependents of the underlying member living in Tanzania to stall.

NSSF Chief, Public Relations and Customers Service, Ms Eunice Chiume talking to the media on the Diaspora scheme WESTADI at DITF grounds.

The NSSF Chief, Public Relations and Customer Service, Ms Eunice Chiume stated" The main objective of the Scheme is to alleviate the high cost of transporting a Tanzanian deceased body for burial at homeland and to reduce the burden of cost medical cover for dependents of a Tanzanian living abroad".
It has been witnessed through social media and other communication platforms that when a Tanzanian dies abroad it is a costly exercise to transport the body home; likewise Diaspora members are frequently faced with the challenge of sending money home for medical costs.

With these two challenges NSSF designed WESTADI for the Tanzanians living overseas. Ms. Chiume also stated that since its inauguration the Scheme has improved its services by providing an online payment platform dubbed as NSSF 4 PAY which cuts significantly on time and cost of money transfers for members.
Members of WESTADI are obliged to pay a contribution of USD 300 per year per member for the cover. She urged all Tanzanians to respond to this key scheme for their peace of mind.
