‘Public Viewing Project’ through Partnership with AMREF, the Global Fund and Sony Corporation, starts in Tanzania

 
Sony Corporation, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria
and the African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) will embark on a 9-day tour of events from November 5, 2011 to raise awareness on HIV and AIDS care and prevention and to expand outreach to young people in Tanzania.

With the support of the Global Fund, the Public Viewing Project team from Sony headquarters in Tokyo and AMREF will be hosting outdoor events in Dar es Salaam, Tanga, Moshi and Arusha. Sony will provide and set up audio visual
equipment for the Project, including a large 150-inch screen, a best-in-its-class High Definition projector and a live switcher, which are to be donated to AMREF for their continuation of the awareness-raising projects in Tanzania. In addition, films provided by Sony Pictures Entertainment, including three blockbuster Spider-Man movies, music videos by Sony Music Entertainment and other entertainment will be screened with the donated equipment.

At the screening venues, AMREF and its implementing partners will provide
voluntary HIV and AIDS counselling and testing services free of charge, and the event is open to everybody.

All events will start from 10:00 AM onwards. Local musicians and MCs will give various performances on stage, while HIV and AIDS counselling and testing will be conducted for those who wish to receive the services. In the evening, there will be screening of the entertainment programmes.

On November 5, 2011, AMREF and the Global Fund will host the official launch of the Public Viewing Project at Mwembeyanga Ground, Temeke, starting from 14:00. It will be attended by important partners in Tanzania’s fight against HIV and AIDS, including Hon. Dr. Haji Mponda,Minister for Health and SocialWelfare, and H.E. Mr. Masaki Okada, Ambassador of Japan.
