On Wednesday, 20th March 2013 the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Klaus-Peter Brandes handed four saloon vehicles over to the Tanzanian Minister of Home Affairs, Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi during an official ceremony at the Police College in Dar es Salaam.
The handing over of the four cars is integral part of a large cooperation project between Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office and the Tanzanian law enforcement agencies.
The German Ambassador Klaus-Peter Brandes underlined the necessity to intensify the cooperation. “The fight against international terrorism, piracy, organized crime, but also everyday crime remain the essential tasks of the security authorities throughout the world while respecting human rights and fundamental freedoms. Therefore, international cooperation is crucial,” stated the German Ambassador.
The German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and the Tanzanian Police have agreed in 2011 to strengthen their cooperation in the fight against organised crimes and international terrorism. The project „Police Development Aid for East Africa” aims at supporting the police in East Africa.
The project enfolds specific training and equipment support for the police in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda as well as seminars on different areas of modern investigative police work such as crime scene investigation. In addition Tanzania participates in the police scholarship program.
During the handing over Ambassador Brandes praised: “As a sign for the good cooperation between the German Criminal Police and the Tanzanian Police Force and to enhance the capabilities of the Tanzanian Police Force in its efforts to combat transnational crime successfully, we hand over four saloon cars today”.
