DStv’s SuperSport will have another
first for East African television with the first live High Definition (HD) broadcast
out of Kenya, a mouth-watering clash between the table-topping Gor Mahia and
defending champions Tusker.
HD broadcasting, with its crystal
clear images, crisp audio and surround sound capabilities, is what TV networks
the world over are striving towards. MultiChoice, industry leaders across the
continent having introduced many viewer enhancing features like the PVR and
DStv Mobile, continues to set the pace with East Africa’s first local HD
broadcast of any sport.
”This
reinforces the promise of giving the best in sporting experience to the fans.
HD is brighter, clearer and comes close to the real thing. Having our own
league in HD illustrates our intent of always keeping up with the dynamic world
of technology,” commented Stephen Isaboke, MultiChoice’s regional director for
East Africa.
SuperSport general manager for East
Africa, Auka Gecheo, is excited at the prospect of a first Tusker Premier
League match in full HD.
“It’s exciting times indeed for
Kenyan sport: the TPL live in superb HD. Coming shortly after the launch of our
new studio facilities, which has enabled Simba Super Soccer to now be live,
shows our commitment to Kenya and the entire East Africa region. It’s also a
clear indication of the strides Kenyan league football has taken and the great
property they’ve created.”
An exultant Jack Ogunda, KPL CEO, had
nothing but praise for partners SuperSport.
“As KPL we are most delighted that
our efforts of administrating a league worthy to be mentioned with the best
there is are being recognised. Through SuperSport’s drive and commitment to be
at the cutting edge of technology, football fans at home and across the
continent will now enjoy our beautiful game in the most modern way just like
they do the Uefa Champions League, Barclays Premier League and the Spanish La
Liga,” he said.
Having just about wrestled the
championship away from Tusker, Gor will want to put on a show at the expense of
the defending champions on Sunday.
The game will be preceded by a
half-hour build-up to be anchored by the queen of Kenyan football, Carol
Radull, while former national team and Tusker coach Jacob “Ghost” Mulee and
sports consultant Arnold Kanyang’onda will provide expert opinion and analysis.
Commentary is available in two
language options: English from Bernard Otieno and Mulee while GoalMouth winner
Michael Were shares kiSwahili duties with Hassan Kauleni.
