Last week, Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola remarked that "Messi and Ronaldo dine apart from the rest - we are lucky to have them in La Liga."
On Saturday, the record-breaking duo will “dine” together in club football’s most anticipated match of the year, El Clasico, which will be broadcast exclusively live on SuperSport and in High Definition.
Anyone looking to counter Guardiola’s statement will face a tough ask as the number one and number two-ranked footballers on the planet have scored a combined 163 goals in all club competitions; goals which SuperSport viewers will be able to relive in the build-up to a match likely to decide the destination of the 2011/2012 La Liga title.
“The Matadors of La Liga 2012: Messi and Ronaldo”, a SuperSport-produced one-hour special, will showcase all 163 goals of the two superstars, currently tied at 41 apiece in the race for the Pichichi, La Liga’s top goal scorer’s award. “The Matadors of La Liga” will be broadcast on Saturday at 7pm (SuperSport 3).
In addition, as with a growing tradition of compiling previous encounters between the two clubs into a documentary film, the first round match has been turned into a reel classic dubbed “El Clasico – The Movie II”.
SuperSport will broadcast “El Clasico – The Movie II” two hours prior the kick off at 6pm (SuperSport 3).
According to Mediapro, the sports rights agency that sells La Liga’s worldwide media rights, over 400 million TV viewers around the world will tune in to the clash of the titans. Mediapro also says that the match will be available in every country with SuperSport being the only broadcaster in Sub-Saharan Africa.
