Dar es Salaam
The
Tanzanian-German Centre for Eastern African Legal Studies (TGCL) qualifies
aspiring lawyers and law students for leading positions in East Africa by
offering a structured LLM and PhD study program. The program is conducted at
the University of Dar es Salam School of Law, in cooperation with the Institute
of African Studies and the Faculty of Law, Business and Economics of the University
of Bayreuth.
Every year the
TGCL is awarding scholarships funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)
and the German Foreign Office for postgraduate studies in various legal fields
focusing legal aspects of East African Integration.
The TGCL, in cooperation with the German
Embassy Dar es Salaam, will launch a new series of scientific publicationsas the
work of Mahadhi Juma Maalim, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United
Republic of Tanzania,entitled“The United Republic of Tanzania in the East
African Community - Legal Challenges in Integrating Zanzibar”.
Lillian Mihayo Mongella took a close look
at the right to compensation for victims of armed conflicts in East Africa; she
wrote a case study of genocide victims in Rwanda.
“East African Community Tax
Harmonisation”, written by Anatole Nahayo, engages critically with the viability
of the tax harmonisation for income tax laws.
Another highlight is abook edited byJosaphat
L. Kanywanyi, Ulrike Wanitzek, Anatole Nahayo and Johannes Döveling that deals
with “Regional Integration and Law”. Itcompares East African Community and European
Union perspectives.
The book
launch will take place on Thursday, 26thFebruary at 04:00 pm, in the
Umoja house, Hamburg Avenue, Dar es Salaam
