In humanitarian operations more than half of all relief items are transported by sea, making ocean transportation a crucial link in humanitarian supply chains. However port authorities, freight forwarders and humanitarian organizations alike are facing challenges in this sector. This directly impacts logistics and supply chain performance in the humanitarian and commercial sector likewise. Addressing these challenges, the Swiss based Kühne Foundation, the National Institute of Transport of Dar es Salaam and the University of Dar es Salaam are proud to announce the 3rd African Logistics Conference. The conference will take place from November 7 - 8, 2013 at the Nkrumah Hall at University of Dar es Salaam.
Over the course of two days logistics topics like “Port and Maritime Transport Challenges in Africa”, “Port Operations and Logistics in Africa” and “Importance of Multimodal Transport for Developing Countries” will be discussed by high ranking experts from the logistics industry, politics, academia and humanitarian sector. It is expected to draw more than 150 participants from African and European countries. The conference will be opened by the Swiss Ambassador, H.E. Olivier Chave. The Tanzanian Minister for Transport, Hon. Dr. Harrison Mwakyembe has been requested to participate as guest of honor. The German Deputy Head of Mission, Hans Koeppel will provide the Dinner Speech at our Gala Dinner on November 7, 2013.
The conference intends to connect the logistics industry, politics and academia in Africa,
particularly the East African Region and also aims to act as knowledge and experience exchange platform between the attending parties. Thus, it also seeks to promote logistics as one of the main drivers of humanitarian development and economic growth.
